I recently had a big birthday and wanted to have a “Mexicoma” where I could pretend like it didn’t happen with margaritas and beautiful beaches. Maroma beach is listed on the travel channel’s top 10 beaches in the world. The hotel is smaller than most of the resorts where I like to stay. However, it was a good change of pace. This is a quiet and remote resort that emphasizes romance. We were greeted quickly with cool towels and champagne and checked in immediately. The lobby is quite austere and not opulent like most resorts, but don’t let that fool you. We booked a swim up room, which was great. It has a very large Jacuzzi tub, indoor and outdoor shower, and a large living area. The patio has a large beach bed, chairs, pool chairs, curtains for privacy, and it steps down directly into the pool. Although it faces the ocean and only about 30 yards from the beach, it didn’t have much of an ocean view because of the palms. The staff surprised my husband and I by upgrading us to the Presidential Suite on the last night! It is truly out of this world with 4 patios, a small private pool, and wonderful views. Fully furnished bar, 6 bottles of wine, 5 kinds of ice cream, it really had more than any 2 people could want. The service at this resort was really great. The staff is extremely responsive everywhere from restaurant staff to beach butlers. The beach is fantastic! Lots of beach area, plenty of beach beds, and beach chairs to pull right into the water. The ocean water is gorgeous and shallow for floating and playing. The beach sand is super soft on your feet and there are beach butlers to bring you drinks, towels, sun screen, books or whatever your heart desires. There is a sky massage area that sits over the water where you can get a massage over the water listening to the waves. I got one and it was wonderful. I will say, however, I think there spa services are way overpriced, even for a resort. The food is gourmet, and we liked lots of things and didn’t like a few. The key is to order more than one thing to try. If you are craving a simple burger and fries, you can order that too. Room service was prompt and good as well. We only went to one show, but it was the best resort show I have ever seen, and I have seen tons. It was Michael Jackson, and it was FANTASTIC! This resort is beautiful and relaxing with great service. El Dorado Maroma is very low key. There aren’t many activities going on, and no pool music, etc. If you are active and looking to party it up on vacation, this is not the place for you. If you’re looking for your own Mexicoma, a few days with your significant other and want a relaxing, romantic setting and a gorgeous beach view, give me a call and we can set up your El Dorado Maroma vacation!
